Limitless Training Sessions represent an athlete's target. Not surprisingly Limitless Sessions are depicted by a red circle in the center of the REAL Training diagram.
Limitless Sessions are actually not training at all but represent races, events, testing, personal challenges, group sessions, and unrestricted sessions. Limitless Sessions should motivate the athlete, as they are what an athlete trains for.
During Limitless training/sessions the limits of an athlete's fitness are exposed. We call this, REALising one’s fitness.
Effort & Duration
Limitless sessions by nature have no limit to effort {intensity}, duration {time} or both. A race by nature has no set time or prescribed effort. For example, a marathon is not limited by time or intensity. An hour time trial is limited by time but not intensity. In a cycling race, there is no limit to the number of times you can attack, not how long these attacks could be.
Frequency
People should test their limits on a regular basis, but it should be done sparingly. Twice a month is probably a good target for most athletes.
Going to one's limits is extremely taxing on the body and mind, so it should not be done too often. It should also only be done when one is recovered, and of course, should be followed up by multiple days of recovery.

Summary
Limitless sessions can take many forms but inherently they should;
have no limit to effort {intensity}, duration {time} or both,
be motivating,
be performed sparingly,
be undertaken in a recovered state, and be followed by recovery sessions.

In short, Limitless sessions are an athlete's target.
